What is Junior Achievement?
Founded in 1919, Junior Achievement (JA) is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics, and free enterprise in order to improve the quality of their lives. JA brings the free enterprise system to life in the classroom and teaches young people the importance of staying in school.
JA’s purpose is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.

Who Benefits from Junior Achievement’s programs?
JA inspires students throughout Central Iowa with programs that bridge the gap between the classroom and the board room. The experience-based learning programs span grades K-12, and focus on three key contact areas:
- Financial literacy
Is Junior Achievement effective?
JA is one of a few global non-profits to use independent, third-party evaluators to gauge the impact of its programs. Since 1993, independent evaluators have conducted studies on JA’s effectiveness. Findings prove that JA has a positive impact in a number of critical areas. These results are available, for free, upon request. Additionally, JA’s programs meet the guidelines established by the FCAT and No Child Left Behind legislation.
Junior Achievement of Central Iowa’s Impact: For the 2015-2016 school year, Junior Achievement of Central Iowa reached over 31,000 students in almost 1,200 classes with over 2000 volunteers.
